New York spot gold gained $6.60 to $1,256.60 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 6.18 points to 777.25 while the TSX Gold Index added 4.18 points to 206.80. Most Canadian gold mines moved higher today, led by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which added $1.83 to $63.43 on 754,000 shares, and Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI), which rose 20 cents to $3.53 on 7.85 million shares. Alacer Gold Corp. (ASR) was one of the few losers. It dipped three cents to $2.23 on 945,000 shares.
Griffin Jones's Blue River Resources Ltd. (BXR), up one-half cent to five cents on 845,000 shares, is getting ready to drill at the Okalla West gold project, on the Banglung property in northeastern Cambodia. (Blue River is earning a 50-per-cent interest in the project from Mike Weeks's Angkor Gold Corp. (ANK: $0.28) by spending $3.5-million on exploration. It can increase its share to 70 per cent by delivering a feasibility study.) Mr. Weeks and Mr. Jones say that drilling will start next week.
