New York spot gold fell $5.80 to $1,254.30 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 7.68 points to 771.62 while the TSX Gold Index dipped 1.15 points to 199.04. Several Canadian gold miners bucked the trend today, led by Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG), which gained 76 cents to $22.20 on 820,000 shares.

Stephen Roman's Harte Gold Corp. (HRT), up three cents to 69 cents on 1.37 million shares, has received assays of up to 8.03 grams of gold per tonne over 7.56 metres at its Sugar project in Northern Ontario. That assay came from one of seven expansion holes drilled in the Middle zone. A second of those holes produced 6.52 grams per tonne over 9.57 metres. Harte's latest assays also included results from seven holes drilled to upgrade the inferred resource in the Sugar zone. Those tests produced higher grades, but over narrower intervals. One yielded 115.49 grams of gold per tonne over 2.05 metres; the other six ranged from 20 to 37 grams per tonne over roughly two metres.
