New York spot gold fell $11.20 to $1,266.40 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 0.11 point to 791.20 while the TSX Gold Index dipped 4.65 points to 209.28. Canadian golds were weaker again today, although Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) recovered four cents to $3.89 on 9.94 million shares. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) led the retreat, dropping $2.14 to $64.85 on 973,000 shares.
Terry Christopher's Zonte Metals Inc. (ZON), up 4.5 cents to 32.5 cents on 423,000 shares, is planning a summer drill program at its McConnells Jest gold project in Yukon. Outcrop sampling in the Two-Four zone produced grab sample assays of up to 20.6 grams of gold per tonne and the company's crews have delineated an area 350 metres long and 250 metres wide, which remains open in two directions, as a "drill-ready target." Mr. Christopher, president and chief executive officer, says that Zonte is currently negotiating with drillers to test Two-Four starting in July.
