New York spot gold fell $3.20 to $1,255.40 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 2.53 points to 799.86 while the TSX Gold Index slid 1.53 points to 207.95. Most Canadian gold miners drifted lower today, although Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) bucked the trend, gaining 21 cents to $65 on 704,000 shares. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) was among the decliners. It slipped 47 cents to $21.95 on 827,000 shares.

John McConnell's Victoria Gold Corp. (VIT), down two cents to 64 cents on 1.18 million shares, has granted Mark Ayranto and Tara Christie's Banyan Gold Corp. (BYN: $0.13) an option to earn a 100-per-cent interest in its Aurex gold project in the Mayo district of Yukon. Banyan can earn a 51-per-cent interest by issuing three million shares and spending $1.6-million on exploration over four years. Banyan can acquire the remaining interest through further expenditures and payments of cash and stock. Ms. Christie, Banyan's president and chief executive officer, says Aurex and its other properties in the area have been explored intermittently for over 100 years, but this is the first time any explorer has managed to consolidate ownership of the "highly prospective" ground.
