New York spot gold gained $4.20 to $1,267.70 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 6.36 points to 806.77 while the TSX Gold Index added 5.51 points to 207.72. Most gold miners were higher today. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) led the way, gaining $2.05 to $17.25 on 4.01 million shares on word it had a good first quarter. So did Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which jumped $6.21 to $65.25 on 2.18 million shares.
Douglas Forster's Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB), up two cents to 21.5 cents on 780,000 shares, has received assays of up to 0.58 gram of gold and 4.9 grams of silver per tonne, plus 0.22 per cent copper, over 29.5 metres at its Monte Carmelo gold project in Nicaragua. The bulk of the mineralization occurred in a 10.5-metre interval that started at surface. The assays are from an eight-hole maiden drill program that spanned 2,100 metres. The company said that all eight holes intersected skarn mineralization with variably anomalous grades.
