New York spot gold gained $5.10 to $1,233.90 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 1.04 points to 811.63 while the TSX Gold Index rose 3.18 points to 209.84. Most Canadian gold miners moved upward today, although Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) dropped 16 cents to $10.73 on 2.27 million shares.
James Kofman and Peter Doherty's Argonaut Gold Inc. (AR), up six cents to $2.39 on 2.09 million shares, has received assays of up to 1.29 grams of gold and 24 grams of silver per tonne over 132 metres at its La Colorada mine in Sonora, Mexico. The 22-hole, 5,139-metre program of reverse circulation drilling was seeking the downdip extension of potential open-pit mineralization at the El Creston deposit. Nine other holes yielded precious metals assays that Mr. Dougherty, president and chief executive officer, deemed worthy of mention. He says that Argonaut's drilling over the past 11 months has further delineated El Creston and given him further confidence in the potential to expand the deposit beyond its current design.
