New York spot gold fell $0.80 to $1,203.70 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 5.36 points to 804.55 while the TSX Gold Index rose 1.48 points to 203.22. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) led Canadian gold miners higher, adding 38 cents to $6.91 on 2.35 million shares, while New Gold Inc. (NGD) led the retreat. It slipped 15 cents to $3.76 on 9.43 million shares.
Philip Walford and George Faught's Marathon Gold Corp. (MOZ), up five cents to $1.07 on 1.06 million shares, has received assays of up to 1.88 grams of gold per tonne over 136 metres at its Marathon deposit on the Valentine Lake project in central Newfoundland. The long interval was embedded with four higher-grade zones, including a 10-metre interval that averaged 6.53 grams per tonne and an eight-metre hit that assayed 5.15 grams per tonne. The assays are from four new holes drilled this year and they all produced gold. A second hole averaged 2.92 grams per tonne over 71 metres while a third produced six metres at 14.17 grams per tonne.
