New York spot gold gained $3.80 to $1,191.10 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 3.61 points to 790.43 while the TSX Gold Index lost 0.79 point to 204.75. Most Canadian gold miners edged higher, with Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) leading the way. It rose $1.37 to $60.05 on 1.55 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC), $21.48 late last week, was down again today. It fell 71 cents to $17.69 on 3.53 million shares.
Darin Wagner's Balmoral Resources Ltd. (BAR), unchanged at 71 cents on 566,000 shares, has received assays of up to 10.51 grams of gold per tonne over 5.8 metres from the Lower Steep deposit on the company's Detour Trend project in west-central Quebec. Balmoral also received assays of up to 27.74 grams of gold per tonne over 2.32 metres from an extension hole drilled at the nearby Bug North deposit at Detour Trend. Mr. Wagner, president and chief executive officer, called the assays "the gift that arrives in the mail after Christmas," adding that Balmoral "got a very good bang" for its drill dollars.
