New York spot gold gained $6.50 to $1,187.30 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.27 point to 794.04 while the TSX Gold Index rose 0.53 point to 205.54. Most Canadian gold miners moved little, although Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) did slip $1.40 to $18.40 on 3.43 million shares. There was no exploration news today, but Graham Wozniak, a Detour director, has died.

Robert McEwen and Bill Fisher's Goldquest Mining Corp. (GQC), up 5.5 cents to 36.5 cents on 4.04 million shares, has received assays of up to 13.75 grams of gold and 73.73 grams of silver per tonne over 4.9 metres at a new discovery on its Tireo project in the Dominican Republic. The zone also assayed 11.78 per cent zinc and 1.12 per cent copper. The hit, in one of the latest four holes drilled in Goldquest's continuing 40-hole, 10,000-metre drill program, occurred in one of the 20 new targets being tested. Mr. Fisher, executive chairman, says the discovery "once again validates our rigorous exploration approach" in the previously unexplored land package in the Tireo region. He says that based on the discovery on what is "merely the third target of 20," he is optimistic as to the potential of the project that he thinks has the potential to become a mining district.
