New York spot gold gained $4.80 to $1,163.10 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 6.77 points to 780.54 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.05 point to 201.19. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) led a minority of Canadian miners higher today, gaining 43 cents to $19.43 on 2.64 million shares.
Claude Lemasson's Eastmain Resources Inc. (ER), up one cent to 52 cents on 982,000 shares, has received another set of high-grade assays from the Eau Claire deposit at Clearwater, in the James Bay district of Quebec. The latest assays, from another 11 holes spanning about 3,800 metres, ranged as high as 67.7 grams of gold per tonne over 2.4 metres. Several other holes produced noteworthy amounts of gold, including one that assayed 15.8 grams per tonne over 3.5 metres. Eastmain also received assays from seven holes spanning 1,500 metres drilled at Snake Lake. One hole produced 11.3 grams of gold over 1.2 metres and another assayed 5.78 grams per tonne over 2.0 metres.
