New York spot gold gained $6.80, closing at $1,269.00 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 5.76 points to 789.40 while the TSX Gold Index rose 5.91 points to 222.30. Canadian gold miners moved higher again today, led by Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX), which added $1.22 to $22.69 on 9.96 million shares, and Detour Gold Corp. (DGC), which rose $1.27 to $26.12 on 2.43 million shares.

Terence Coughlan and Bradley Langille's GoGold Resources Inc. (GGD), down three cents to 58 cents on 4.47 million shares, has received assays of up to 32.8 grams of gold per tonne over 18 metres from trenching at its Santa Gertrudis project in the Sonora district of Mexico. Drilling last year produced high-grade gold assays as well, so the company is hoping to add more resources to its mine plan. The company is currently shipping up to 150 tonnes of high-grade rock per day to a custom mill, which has so far yielded 425 ounces at an average grade of 14 grams per tonne.
