New York spot gold gained $6.90, closing at $1,262.20 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 11.36 points to 783.64 while the TSX Gold Index rose 7.25 points to 216.39. Canadian gold miners moved higher, led by Endeavour Mining Corp. (EDV), which added $1.83 to $23.62 on 422,000 shares, and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which rose $2.28 to $62.89 on 1.72 million shares.
John Robins and Michael Allen's Northern Empire Resources Corp. (NM), up 3.5 cents to 18 cents on 353,000 shares, has received assays of up to 5.73 grams of gold and 29.8 grams of silver per tonne from chip sampling over a 32-metre-long zone at its Richardson property, near Fairbanks in central Alaska. The noteworthy assays are from the wall of the old Democrat pit, on the southwestern portion of the property. The Democrat pit was the site of a 70,000-tonne bulk sample collected nearly 30 years ago by previous explorers. That sample produced 2,200 ounces of fine gold by gravity concentrating, which was a recovery grade of one gram per tonne.
