New York spot gold fell $1.90 to $1,266.50 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 11.69 points to 778.50 while the TSX Gold Index rose 1.10 points to 211.32. Most Canadian gold miners recovered lost round today after Tuesday's rout, although Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) dropped again, down $1.03 to $61.63 on 1.99 million shares. Klondex Mines Ltd. (KDX) gained 22 cents to $6.65 on 1.79 million shares.

Gerald McCarvill and Ken Lapierre's Rockcliff Copper Corp. (RCU), down one-half cent to 13 cents on 144,000 shares, has acquired an option to earn a 100-per-cent interest in the 5,300-hectare Snow Lake gold project in Northern Manitoba. To earn its interest, Rockcliff has agreed to pay a local prospector, Peter Dunlop, $200,000 in cash and issue him 750,000 shares over a four-year period. As well, the company must spend $1-million on exploration over five years. The new claims add to the company's existing 35,000-hectare Snow Lake project, which it has been exploring for base metals and gold.
