New York spot gold gained $0.40 to $1,337.10 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 0.34 point to 810.89 while the TSX Gold Index lost 5.26 points to 243.90. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) lost $1.10 to $28.35 on 1.16 million shares while Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) shed $2.33 to $71.54 on 814,000 shares.

Negar Adam's Makena Resources Inc. (MKN), unchanged at 2.5 cents on 606,000 shares, has begun drilling at Clone, its gold prospect southeast of Stewart in British Columbia. (Makena holds a 50-per-cent interest in Clone, while Teuton Resources Corp. (TUO: $0.355) holds a 25-per-cent interest and is the operator. The remaining 25 per cent is owned by Silver Grail Resources Ltd. (SVG: $0.08).) Ms. Adam, president and chief executive officer of Makena for the past nine years, says she and her partners are very optimistic about the drilling program given their previous successes in the area, adding they "look forward to what may transpire on the property in the next few weeks."
