New York spot gold gained $2.30 to $1,348.10 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 10.07 points to 828.48 while the TSX Gold Index lost 3.60 points to 267.40. Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) was among the few gainers today. It added eight cents to $5.53 on 5.76 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) posted one of the larger declines. It slipped 87 cents to $33.18 on 1.51 million shares.

Randy Turner's Independence Gold Corp. (IGO), down 2.5 cents to 36.5 cents on 170,000 shares, has wrapped up drilling at its Boulevard project in the White Gold district of west-central Yukon. The company completed 30 holes to an average depth of 100 metres in the 2,946-metre program that tested the Denali, Sunset, Sunrise and Kahiltna targets. This is significantly more than the 2,000 metres initially planned, presumably because the company recently discovered gold at Kahiltna.

Mr. Turner, Independence's $195,000-per-year president and chief executive officer, says the drilling was designed to test along the trend of previous gold intercepts to seek parallel gold zones and expand the areas of mineralization. Independence also tested new soil anomalies in the program. The company is now drilling at the nearby Rosebute property, which it is optioning from Taku Gold Corp. (TAK: $0.175).
