New York spot gold gained $4.40 to $1,319.70 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 4.57 points to 770.91 while the TSX Gold Index added 6.62 points to 260.46. Most Canadian gold miners were strong today. Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) added 29 cents to $7.19 on 6.05 million shares while New Gold Inc. (NGD) rose 24 cents to $5.83 on 3.49 million shares.
Greg Smith's Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB), up one cent to 19 cents on 185,000 shares, has received assays of up to 11.13 grams of gold and 13.7 grams of silver per tonne over 5.61 metres from the Main Blag target at its Eastern Borosi project in Nicaragua. The assays, from 11 new holes drilled this year, also included a 2.78-metre interval in a step-out hole into the East Dome structure. It returned 2.69 grams of gold and 431.6 grams of silver per tonne. The work is being paid for by Calibre's co-venturer, Iamgold Corp. (IMG: $6.11), which can earn a 70-per-cent interest in Eastern Borosi by spending $10.9-million.
