New York spot gold gained $3.20 to $1,331.70 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 4.88 points to 768.62 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.08 points to 267.51. Most Canadian gold miners retreated today, led by Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD), which slipped 20 cents to $6.08 on 5.64 million shares, and Alacer Gold Corp. (ASR), which lost 20 cents to $3.20 on 1.71 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) gained 43 cents to $32.22 on 1.33 million shares.

Don Dudek's Savary Gold Corp. (SCA), down 3.5 cents to 10.5 cents on 3.98 million shares, and Andrew Dinning's Sarama Resources Ltd. (SWA), unchanged at 22 cents on 296,000 shares, have received assays of up to 1.73 grams of gold per tonne over 28 metres from the Karankasso zone at their Karankasso gold project in Burkina Faso. The assays are from their 43-hole, 6,580-metre drill program on the property. The drilling also produced some new discoveries, including 1.34 grams per tonne over 11.6 metres at S-Nosa and 12.24 grams per tonne over four metres at the Splay 2 zone.
