New York spot gold lost $8.60 to $1,328.50 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 2.62 points to 763.74 while the TSX Gold Index gained 1.91 points to 268.59. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) led the gainers among Canadian gold miners today, adding 28 cents to $27.97 on 4.58 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. was among those falling back. It slipped 33 cents to $31.79 on 1.16 million shares.
Mark Connelly and Richard Hyde's West African Resources Ltd. (WAF), up two cents to 23 cents on 1.10 million shares, has received assays of up to 1,107 grams of gold per tonne over one metre at the M1 South zone on its Tanlouka project in Burkina Faso. The bonanza-grade hit occurred within an 18-metre interval that averaged 82.3 grams of gold per tonne and was just one of several promotable assays obtained on M1 South. Mr. Hyde, managing director, was enthused with what he called the "ultrahigh-grade gold" encountered, especially the occurrences at depth, which he says confirm the depth potential of the project.
