New York spot gold dropped $3.40 to $1,359.80 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 9.86 points to 747.79 while the TSX Gold Index lost 8.19 points to 268.08. Most Canadian gold miners retreated today, led by Detour Gold Corp. (DGC), which fell $1.80 to $33.52 on 1.65 million shares, and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which dropped $1.07 to $71.93 on 1.16 million shares.
Marcy Kiesman's Durango Resources Inc. (DGO), unchanged at 10.5 cents on 217,000 shares, has acquired "a series of cell claims" -- usually a synonym for "small property" -- hosting an intriguing silver and copper prospect near Chibougamau in Northern Quebec. Whatever its size, Ms. Kiesman, Durango's $102,000-a-year president and chief executive officer, touts the project as being "adjacent to and near" -- as if "adjacent to and far from" was an option -- the Obalski project being worked by TomaGold Corp. (LOT: $0.145).
