New York spot gold lost $9.60 to $1,256.30 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 1.70 points to 710.22 while the TSX Gold Index slipped 3.55 points to 227.14. Most Canadian gold miners edged lower today with bullion. Goldcorp Inc. (G) lost 72 cents to $22.46 on 4.54 million shares. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) was among the gainers. It added five cents to $5.13 on 6.78 million shares.
David Grondin and Martin Nicoletti's TomaGold Corp. (LOT), down one-half cent to 12 cents on 1.63 million shares, is acquiring a 39.5-per-cent interest in the Sidace Lake gold project from Planet Exploration Inc. The majority interest in the property, which is 25 kilometres northeast of Balmertown in the Red Lake district of Northwestern Ontario, is held by Goldcorp Inc. (G: $22.46). The deal requires TomaGold to pay $1.5-million to Planet -- to be satisfied by TomaGold issuing 15 million shares at a deemed value of 10 cents.
