New York spot gold lost $13.50 to $1,278.00 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange dropped 4.60 points to 709.41 while the TSX Gold Index lost 4.47 points to 233.52. Most Canadian gold miners slipped back today. Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI) dropped 59 cents to $10.85 on 2.39 million shares, while Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) dropped 46 cents to $9.99 on 3.26 million shares.
Bruce McLeod's Sabina Gold & Silver Corp. (SBB) slumped 60 cents to $1.13 on 15.73 million shares on word that the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB) has recommended to the Canadian government that the company's Back River gold project not proceed to the licensing and permitting regulatory phase at this time. The NIRB did throw the company a half-chewed bone, suggesting the proposal "could be reconsidered" once more information is provided to address uncertainties regarding effects predictions and mitigation measures. The big worries of the NIRB centred on the caribou herds and climate change.
