New York spot gold gained $6.00 to $1,291.50 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 6.26 points to 714.01 while the TSX Gold Index rose 9.22 points to 237.99. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) recovered Tuesday's loss, gaining $2.08 to $66.24 on 1.69 million shares. Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) was strong as well, gaining 61 cents to $10.45 on 1.47 million shares.

John McConnell's Victoria Gold Corp. (VIT), up one cent to 51 cents on 1.14 million shares, has received assays of up to 0.94 gram of gold per tonne over 106.1 metres at its Olive-Shamrock zone at Dublin Gulch in Yukon. Most of the latest holes yielded modest grades of gold over substantial intervals, with higher-grade intervals embedded in several of them. The results are in line with the assays from the first 40 holes already reported, which included up to 2.5 grams per tonne over 45.7 metres and 2.1 grams per tonne over 38.1 metres. Mr. McConnell, Victoria's $325,000-per-year president and chief executive officer, says the results from drilling at Olive, which is nearly complete, "are tracking well." (Those tracks are leading toward Shamrock, which now appears to be connected with Olive.)
