New York spot gold gained $10.80 to $1,284.10 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 0.28 point to 715.87 while the TSX Gold Index gained 0.73 point to 232.49. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) led Canadian gold miners higher today. It gained $1.41 to $65.93 on 1.36 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) led those in retreat. It shed 55 cents to $30.82 on 1.89 million shares.
Ghislain Morin and Serge Roy's Metanor Resources Inc. (MTO), unchanged at 8.5 cents on 3.42 million shares, has received assays of up to 6.98 grams of gold per tonne over 13.8 metres at the South zone on its Moroy project, 225 kilometres northeast of Val d'Or. The assays are from the first 14,000 metres of the company's continuing 60,000-metre program that is designed to increase its mineral resource in the area. Moroy is just one kilometre from the mill at Bachelor, Metanor's main project in the area.
