New York spot gold gained $19.30 to $1,262.50 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 10.33 points to 711.37 while the TSX Gold Index rose 4.87 points to 229.92. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) had a strong day, gaining 32 cents to $6.61 on 12.96 million shares. Alacer Gold Corp. (ASR) was a laggard. It slipped two cents to $3.04 on 3.02 million shares.

Jean-Marc Lacoste's Monarques Gold Corp. (MQR), up 6.5 cents to 35.5 cents on 829,000 shares, has received assays of up to 19.5 grams of gold per tonne over one metre from its Gold Bug structure at Croinor in the Val d'Or region of Quebec. The assays are from a nine-hole, 774-metre shallow drill program designed to test the continuity of the zone along strike and at depth. All the holes hit the structure but the gold content varied considerably, as expected, because of the presence of visible gold. Most of the other grades were modest, although grades topping seven grams per tonne were obtained over one metre in two other holes.
