New York spot gold gained $2.50 to $1,245.80 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 0.52 point to 657.96 while the TSX Gold Index gained 2.13 points to 205.91. Most Canadian gold stocks posted modest gains today, led by Goldcorp Inc. (G), which added 42 cents to $22.60 on 4.63 million shares and Detour Gold Corp. (DGC), which added 51 cents to $23.45 on 2.52 million shares. Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI) led the losers, falling eight cents to $8.38 on 1.43 million shares.

John Dorward's Roxgold Inc. (ROG), up nine cents to $1.20 on 2.86 million shares, has a maiden resource estimate for the QV1 target at its Yaramoko gold project in Burkina Faso. QV1, a supplementary deposit to the main Yaramoko project, now hosts 563,000 tonnes at 12.14 grams of gold per tonne, or 220,000 ounces, at a five-gram-per-tonne cut-off. Mr. Dorward, president and chief executive officer, calls his new maiden "another milestone in terms of growth" but then quickly dismisses it as "not material to Roxgold" when faced with the potential requirement of a new technical report.
