New York spot gold lost $6.00 to $1,244.30 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 4.93 points to 654.25 while the TSX Gold Index lost 4.31 points to 202.10. Most Canadian gold stocks moved lower today, led by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which slipped 95 cents to $51.61 on 1.43 million shares, and Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX), which dropped 64 cents to $20.06 on 10.61 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) went the other way, adding eight cents to $24.91 on 2.40 million shares.

Denis Lachance and Mario Bouchard's Radisson Mining Resources Inc. (RDS), unchanged at 24.5 cents on 233,000 shares, has received assays of up to 12.73 grams of gold per tonne over 1.0 metre from the first four holes of its drill program at the O'Brien project, northwest of Val d'Or in Quebec. As well, "many intersections with visible gold" were intersected in two of the four holes. Mr. Bouchard, president and chief executive officer, says "these results come as a surprise," although in his next breath he adds that the holes were targeting extensions of known ore shoots currently in the company's resource estimate. (The surprise was perhaps that the high-grade intersection occurred in sedimentary rock that the company had not been initially targeting.)
