New York spot gold gained $19.70 to $1,258.10 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange jumped 15.87 points to 619.79 while the TSX Gold Index rose 10.15 points to 207.25. Canadian miners did well today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) led the way, adding $2.27 to $52.34 on 1.31 million shares. Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) jumped 45 cents to $5.12 on 24.97 million shares.
Darin Labrenz and Graeme Currie's Pure Gold Mining Inc. (PGM), down two cents to 38 cents on 835,000 shares, has received high-grade gold assays from Russet South at its Madsen project near Red Lake in Ontario. The latest assays are from six holes that targeted the Alpha zone of Russet South. One yielded 56.2 grams per tonne over 1.3 metres while a second managed 22.1 grams per tonne over 3.5 metres. Only one of the six tests failed to yield at least modest amounts of gold. Mr. Labrenz, president and chief executive officer, called the new results "exciting," as they continue to demonstrate the high-grade gold present at Madsen.
