New York spot gold gained $1.00 to $1,129.00 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 5.95 points to 494.99 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.61 points to 141.68. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground but Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) was up again, adding nine cents to $17.70 on 3.43 million shares.
Michel David's Walker River Resources Corp. (WRR) lost three cents to five cents on 4.45 million shares. The company has received assays from the first two reverse-circulation drill holes at its Lapon Canyon gold project in Nevada. The first yielded 8.41 grams of gold per tonne over 12.2 metres, mainly because of a 1.5-metre interval that ran 292 grams per tonne. The second hole, which averaged 7.84 grams per tonne over 22.9 metres, also included two 1.5-metre intervals with grades of up to 66.8 grams per tonne. More assays are expected shortly as Walker River had completed six holes to an average of 150 metres by late last year. In all, 6,000 metres of drilling are planned in the coninuing program.
