New York spot gold closed up $6.80 to $1,075.50 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 2.18 points to 518.98 while the TSX Gold Index gained 3.49 points to 125.23. Canadian gold miners had a good day. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) helped lead the way, gaining 25 cents to $2.58 on 9.19 million shares. Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) was also strong. It added 29 cents to $2.75 on 8.66 million shares.

Wolf Wiese's Golden Dawn Minerals Inc. (GOM) closed unchanged at 10.5 cents on 1.68 million shares. The company has completed six holes at its Greenwood gold and silver project in southeastern British Columbia and Mr. Wiese says all six have encountered what he calls "projected mineralized targets." Some of the hits were better than projected, he claims, and the company will extend its latest hole by another 50 metres. Mr. Wiese now describes his planned 1,500-metre program as a potential 2,000-metre program. He says the latest hole "significantly demonstrates" that silver and gold mineralization like what had been mined at the No. 6 level of the old May-Mac mine extends another 60 metres deeper, to below the No. 7 level.
