New York spot gold closed down $1.60 to $1,083.40 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 1.20 points to 523.93 while the TSX Gold Index gained 1.36 points to 124.49. Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) led the gainers among Canadian gold miners. It added nine cents to $2.44 on 3.13 million shares. Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI) was the main loser. It dipped 11 cents to $5.25 on 615,000 shares.
Kevin MacArthur and Ron Clayton's Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO) jumped $1.17 to $11.28 on 2.13 million shares on word it earned $13.3-million (U.S.) during its third quarter, thanks to strong performances at its La Arena gold mine in Peru and the Escobal silver mine in Guatemala. Mr. MacArthur, Tahoe's $450,000-a-year executive chairman, touted his company's "very low operating costs" at both mines, adding that a new quarterly production record at Escobal resulted in record revenues despite slumping metals prices.
