New York spot gold closed up $2.50 to $1,091.90 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 0.56 point to 533.72 while the TSX Gold Index gained 3.25 points to 125.05. Canadian gold mines moved higher today, led by solid gains from Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX), which added 39 cents to $9.77 on 4.19 million shares, and Goldcorp Inc. (G), which gained 49 cents to $15.83 on 5.19 million shares.

Wolf Wiese's Golden Dawn Minerals Inc. (GOM), down 1.5 cents to 13.5 cents on 584,000 shares, has finished three holes at its Greenwood project in southern British Columbia. This is the first 180 metres of a planned 1,500-metre program testing targets near the No. 2 adit at the old May-Mac mine. Assays are pending but Mr. Wiese, president and chief executive officer, says the tests intercepted between 1.3 metres and 5.4 metres of mineralization. He says these samples appear similar -- this is not a visual assay, mind you -- to that seen where promotable assays were obtained during channel sampling in the old mine.
