New York spot gold closed down another $9.70 to $1,108.50 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 0.88 point to 542.16 while the TSX Gold Index slipped 2.55 points to 131.17. Most Canadian gold miners declined today, led by Detour Gold Corp. (DGC), which slid 84 cents to $13.51 on 3.81 million shares. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) was one of a few headed the other way. It gained seven cents to $36.32 on 2.01 million shares.

Nav Dhaliwal's Bonterra Resources Inc. (BTR), down one cent to 25 cents on 790,000 shares, has received an assay of 14.0 grams of gold over 6.6 metres at its Gladiator project, 170 kilometres northeast of Val d'Or. The assay is from the first hole of a drill program that began late last month to probe plunge and strike extensions of a recently discovered zone along the Spartacus trend. Mr. Dhaliwal, president and chief executive officer, says "further results are expected in the coming weeks," but he has been tight-lipped about the scope of the current drilling program.
