New York spot gold jumped $17.40 to $1,156.40 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 5.22 points to 552.26 while the TSX Gold Index rose 5.03 points to 140.23. Most Canadian gold miners had a strong day, led by Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX), which gained 51 cents to $9.84 on 5.27 million shares. The only laggard was Detour Gold Corp. (DGC), which dipped two cents to $15.21 on 1.95 million shares.
Richard Young and Alan Hill's Teranga Gold Corp. (TGZ) gained three cents to 58 cents on 1.33 million shares. Teranga will release its third quarter results on Oct. 29 and investors are expecting good news. The company has been gradually increasing gold production and cutting operating costs at its Sabodala gold mine in Senegal. The mine produced just over 106,000 ounces through the first two quarters of 2015, enough to support a six-month profit of nearly $19-million (U.S.).
