New York spot gold climbed $9.60 to $1,186 Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose a fraction of a point to 682.30 and the TSX Gold Index rose a fraction to 157.70.
Major Canadian gold miners followed bullion higher. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) rose 54 cents to $38.72, Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) added one cent to $14.25, Kinross Gold Corp. (K) gained seven cents to $3.16 and Iamgold Corp. (IMG) gained six cents to $2.83.
John Plourde's Pacific Booker Minerals Inc. (BKM) rose 17 cents to $5 on 1,600 shares. The British Columbia Ministry of Environment has resumed the environmental assessment process for the company's Morrision copper-gold project in B.C. The ministry was weeks from announcing a decision, when Imperial Metals Corp.'s (III: $9.79) Mount Polley tailings dams burst last August. The ministry promptly suspended all environmental assessment processes, including Morrison's, until it could find out what caused the spill. The independent report, released in February, determined that it was caused by a foundation failure. Pacific Booker says this will not happen at Morrison and it has the studies to prove it. The ministry has another 30 days to review the mine plan.
