New York spot gold hit an intraday high of $1,306.20 Wednesday, before closing down 80 cents to $1,293.40. Investors are now watching the European Central Bank closely: it is expected to announce money printing at its meeting on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 7.49 points to 679.05 and the TSX Gold Index rose one point to 190.26.

Canadian gold miners ended the day some up, others down. Goldcorp Inc. (G) gained 79 cents to $30.17 and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) rose 14 cents to $40.29, while Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) fell 12 cents to $5.34, Richmont Mines Ltd. (RIC) fell 21 cents to $4.20 and Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) fell 36 cents to $13.23. Yamana, Richmont and Detour are all raising money. Yamana announced a $260-million bought deal last week. Richmont arranged a $30-million bought deal yesterday, but boosted it to $34-million this morning, and Detour announced a $140.8-million bought deal today. It will use the money repaying all outstanding debts.
