New York spot gold closed down $6.30 to $1,216.60 Wednesday, as the U.S. dollar climbed to a four-year high. The United States continued to bomb ISIS targets in Syria and along the Iraqi border, but that is no longer boosting bullion. Swiss bank UBS predicts gold will end the month around $1,250, but it has lowered its three-month target to $1,200 from $1,300. In Canada, the TSX Venture Exchange slipped 1.08 points to 924.09 and the TSX Gold Index lost 2.10 points to 170.58.

Canadian gold miners ended the day down. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) dropped 26 cents to $16.93, Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) dropped 73 cents to $33.12, Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) fell 20 cents to $7.08 and Iamgold Corp. (IMG) lost five cents to $3.32.

Doug Forster and Blayne Johnson's Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB) gained 1.5 cents to 14 cents on 1.86 million shares. The company has assays, including 12.9 metres of 8.33 grams per tonne gold, from its Eastern Borosi gold property in Nicaragua. Excitement over Eastern Borosi has helped the stock up from three cents in May, when Iamgold decided to acquire a 51-per-cent interest. In exchange, it has promised to cover $5-million worth of exploration over the next three years. It budgets 31 drill holes for this fall.
