New York spot gold closed up $3.70 to $1,312.20 Wednesday, receiving a slight boost when a United States retail sales report was unchanged for July. Analysts had been forecasting an increase. Here in Canada, the TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.05 points to 999.76 and the TSX Gold Index edged up a fraction to 207.80.
Canadian gold miners ended some up, some down. Goldcorp Inc. (G) gained 43 cents to $31.93, Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) added 17 cents to $14.06, Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) slipped 12 cents to $20.82 and Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) slipped 14 cents to $9.61.
