Brian Kynoch and Murray Edwards's Imperial Metals Corp. (III) rose 64 cents to $10.36 on 754,000 shares. The results are in: the B.C. Ministry of Environment says water is safe to drink at several locations following the Mount Polley tailings spill on Monday. The media continues to call the spill a "tailings disaster," and local Indian bands are still talking up the billions of litres of toxic waste that has leaked into their water system. Government officials, however, say the water was not poisonous and is unlikely to harm fish or aquatic life. Testing continues and the water-use ban will remain in effect for a few more days. This might be the largest tailings spill in the province's history, but it is not amounting to much of an environmental disaster. Disappointed environmentalists are questioning the preliminary nature of the test results, but that was to be expected. There was one cause of concern from the water samples, but it had nothing to do with tailings. Looks like Myron Pillock and Slurry Edwards have dodged a bullet for now with the recent water results. Unfortunately the actions or should I say the inactions of Imperial with regards to warnings about the tailings dam has set in motion a series of unforeseen consequences which could hinder development of future mining projects in BC.
