The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was an upbeat 90-72-140 as the TSX Venture Exchange lost three points to 621 and polished diamond prices inched upward. Bruce Counts's Lithoquest Diamonds Inc. (LDI) had its busiest day in two months, gaining one-half cent to 9.5 cents on 447,000 shares. The company recently dated some kimberlites on its North Kimberley project in Australia. Now, it needs them to put out some diamond encouragement.

Patrick Power's Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD), down one-half cent to six cents on 868,000 shares, is plodding along with a private placement that it launched in mid-January. Arctic Star quickly sold 5.84 million of the five-cent shares in a first tranche, and while there has yet to be a second tranche, Mr. Power is now adding another five million shares to the placement, so there are still 11.12 million shares available. He hopes that the $292,000 currently raised will grow to $850,000, enough for a modest amount of work on the company's Timantti diamond project in east-central Finland, and for working capital.
