The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a 68-68-154 draw. The TSX Venture Exchange fell fractionally to 602 while polished diamond prices edged lower. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY) lost one-half cent to 22.5 cents on 603,000 shares. The company is struggling to turn a profit at its Renard mine in Quebec.
Jean-Raymond Boulle and Sybrand Van Der Spuy's Diamond Fields Resources Inc. (DFR: $0.105) has resumed diamond mining off the coast of Namibia. The work, which is being handled by International Mining and Dredging Holding Ltd. (IMDH), involves dredging diamond-bearing gravels from the shallow seabed northwest of Luderitz, along what is known as Namibia's "Forbidden Coast." (The name is literal: German colonizers banned people from an area that they called Sperrgebeit -- Prohibited Area -- 110 years ago and their successors have maintained the ban to this day over most of the area. The Sperrgebeit now hosts a national park, but even there, access is denied to most of the ground.)
