The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a weak 63-95-119. The TSX Venture Exchange rose three points to 721 while polished diamond prices edged lower. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY), which bounced repeatedly off its 10-year low of 33 cents this week, lifted itself off the mat today, adding three cents to 38.5 cents on 680,000 shares. The company is still working out the kinks at its Renard mine in Quebec. Sheldon Inwentash's Gratomic Inc. (GRAT) closed unchanged at 11 cents on 3.29 million shares. The company is advancing its Aukam graphite project in Namibia and is collaborating -- a highfalutin variant of promoting -- to produce graphene using its Aukam ore.
Bruce Counts's Lithoquest Diamonds Inc. (LDI) gained one cent to 25.5 cents on 479,000 shares. The stock leapt to an intraday high of 43 cents before ending the day up 9.5 cents to 24.5 cents on 2.57 million shares on Monday. The jump came of the heels of word that the company has drilled kimberlite at its North Kimberley diamond project near the northern coast of Western Australia. Still, it will take some solid diamond counts to sustain the company's promotion through the coming winter, as further drilling is unlikely to start until well into next year.
