The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Monday was a dreary 43-88-146. The TSX Venture Exchange lost nine points to 715 while polished diamond prices were flat. Paul Gray's Zadar Ventures Inc. (ZAD) lost one-half cent to three cents on 2.02 million shares. The company has said nothing since January, when it tentatively agreed to acquire the South Hector lithium project in California.
James Bruchs and Michiel de Wit's Tsodilo Resources Ltd. (TSD: $0.53) is sending mixed messages regarding its continuing bulk sample of the BK16 kimberlite in the prolific Orapa kimberlite field of Botswana. The bright news is a recently completed diamond valuation. The company submitted 224 diamonds larger than one millimetre, weighing a total of 34.35 carats, for valuation. The result was an average of $197.68 (U.S.) per carat. This was an arithmetic mean in which no outliers were excluded, which is encouraging since there were no clear outliers skewing the value higher. A 1.53-carat G-coloured stone sold for $755 (U.S.) per carat, accounting for about 17 per cent of the total value, while a 1.38-carat F-coloured gem came close, at $705 (U.S.) per carat.
