The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a so-so 79-76-135. The TSX Venture Exchange regained 12 points to 796 while polished diamond prices edged higher. Lukas Lundin and Eira Thomas's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC) gained four cents to $2.01 on 1.20 million shares. Lucara is still reaping strong profits from its Karowe diamond mine in Botswana, but its stock is struggling. Lucara rebounded briefly a month ago on word it had acquired a rough diamond marketing platform; it was but a brief hiatus to a long, slow decline.

Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY), up one cent to 56 cents on 212,000 shares, has tweaked its 2018 guidance for the Renard mine in the Otish Mountains district of Quebec. The company still expects to sell 1.1 million carats of diamonds larger than a three-millimetre sieve for between $125 (U.S.) and $165 (U.S.) per carat, plus another 500,000 carats of smaller gems for an average of between $15 (U.S.) and $19 (U.S.) per carat. In all, Stornoway expects to recover and sell about 1.6 million carats from 2.5 million tonnes of kimberlite mined from open pit and, increasingly, from underground, averaging about 0.65 carat per tonne.
