The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was an encouraging 100-58-120. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 15 points to 895 while polished diamond prices edged lower. True North Gems Inc. (TGX) continues to trade briskly. Today, it added one-half cent to 1.5 cents on 4.59 million shares. The company, essentially bankrupt since it lost its Aappaluttoq ruby project in Greenland over a year ago, is $4.5-million in the red.

Dermot Desmond and David Whittle's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) gained five cents to $3.51 on 2.52 million shares. The company concluded its last sale of rough diamonds for 2017 on a depressing note, but Mr. Whittle, the company's (not-so) interim president and chief executive officer, was quick to assure investors that better days lie ahead for the company and its 49-per-cent share of the Gahcho Kue mine in the Northwest Territories. (Mr. Whittle was the temporary replacement for former president and CEO, Patrick Evans, who had been given the heave-ho in June. There has been no sign of a permanent replacement since then.)
