The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a rousing 108-60-110. The TSX Venture Exchange added another eight points to 850 while polished diamond prices edged higher. Dermot Desmond and David Whittle's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) dropped four cents to $3.41 on 99,000 shares. The stock has been stuck near the $3.50 mark for the past month as investors wait for news of the company's latest diamond sale.
Andre Audet and Michel Fontaine's Albert Mining Inc. (AIIM), down one-half cent to seven cents on 102,000 shares, has sold 4.71 million shares at seven cents, raising $330,000. Mr. Fontaine, president and chief executive officer, and Mr. Audet, chairman, had been seeking $830,000 so they are calling the sale a first tranche. They made no mention of a second tranche and Albert may be hard-pressed to complete the full placement as insiders have already bought 1.1 million shares. (Mr. Audet, who founded the company in the late 1990s as Majescor Resources Inc., bought 700,000 of them. He has been in a buying mood of late, having also bought 658,000 shares in the market at an average of 4.6 cents.)
