The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a positive 70-59-133. The TSX Venture Exchange fell two points to 782 while polished diamond prices remained flat. Dermot Desmond and David Whittle's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) gained one cent to $3.91 on 166,000 shares. The company, which has been silent for the past month, is getting great grades but disappointing diamond values from its Gahcho Kue mine in the Northwest Territories.

Bruce Counts, one of Canada's veteran diamond explorers, is returning to diamond promotion. He was an assistant geophysicist with BHP Billiton Ltd. at Ekati in 1992 and went on to run his own, ultimately unsuccessful, diamond explorer, Indicator Minerals Inc., through the 2000s. Now, Consolidated Westview Resource Corp. (CWS.H: $0.395) has agreed to acquire Mr. Counts's private Lithoquest Diamonds Inc. through a reverse takeover. First, Lithoquest will split its shares 2-1 and then Consolidated Westview will exchange one of its shares for one Lithoquest share. As well, Lithoquest's shareholders will get one warrant, exercisable at 30 cents over two years, for every four of their shares.
