The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a positive 71-62-129. The TSX Venture Exchange gained six points to 797 while polished diamond prices rose 0.1 per cent. Dermot Desmond's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) rose four cents to $3.93 on 50,000 shares. The company, which is concluding its latest rough diamond sale in Belgium, provided details of its previous two sales shortly after they concluded.
Ken MacNeill and George Read's Shore Gold Inc. (SGF) gained one-half cent to 19 cents on 2.09 million shares. The company and Rio Tinto PLC, its partner on the Star-Orion South diamond project in central Saskatchewan, have laid out their plan for the project. (Rio Tinto can earn a 60-per-cent interest in the project by completing four phases of work at an estimated cost of just under $75-million, although it will not earn an interest for completing the first phase. The first three phases are expected to be large diameter drilling (LDD) programs, 10 holes each, while the fourth phase requires Rio Tinto to deliver a feasibility study.)
