The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a mediocre 58-65-135. The TSX Venture Exchange lost one point to 764 while polished diamond prices jumped 0.75 per cent. Jim Gowans's Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) gained four cents to $17.74 on 154,000 shares. The company has agreed to a friendly cash takeover bid by the private Washington Group, at the equivalent of $18 per share.

Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY), up one cent to 84 cents on 252,000 shares, is quietly considering an expansion of its Renard diamond mine in the Otish Mountains region of north-central Quebec. The company recently declared Renard to have completed its ramp-up to full production, having achieved a processing rate of 6,149 tonnes per day during June, just above the 6,000-tonne-per-day nameplate capacity of the plant. Now, it appears the company is looking to squeeze more out of the plant, and perhaps the mine itself.
