The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a discouraging 36-82-139. The TSX Venture Exchange fell seven points to 771 while polished diamond prices edged higher. Lukas Lundin's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC) dropped 16 cents to $2.81 on 520,000 shares. Lucara has had no recent news but the company continues to do well at its Karowe diamond mine in Botswana.
Matthew Wood's Five Star Diamonds Ltd. (STAR), up six cents to 36 cents on 43,000 shares, has begun drilling at its Jaibaras diamond project in Para state in northern Brazil. The Jaibaras project hosts eight kimberlite discoveries and Five Star is drilling the first two of the old finds. Drilling began on J1 and will conclude near the end of July at J2. Each pipe is being drilled on a 50-metre-square grid across an area defined by a ground geophysical survey. J1 will receive 30 holes, covering an area of five hectares. The planned program at J2 is nearly identical to the J1 program, suggesting the J2 grid has a similar size.
