The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a positive 68-58-131. The TSX Venture Exchange gained five points to 788 while polished diamond prices fell 0.1 per cent. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY) gained one cent to 84 cents on 1.03 million shares. Stornoway revealed its first quarter results this week. Diamond prices from its new Renard mine were in line with (reduced) projections and cash flow was solid.
Patrick Evans's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) gained 13 cents to $3.98 on 317,000 shares. The company reported its first quarter results after the close Wednesday, providing investors with results of the company's sales from Mountain's 49-per-cent-owned, $1.08-billion Gahcho Kue mine, 250 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. The results were no surprise, at least to those who read the company's promotional tea leaves carefully, but a key part of the story is what the company did not say.
